Prevocational Services for Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities
Aspire’s Prevocational Services help individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities build skills for meaningful employment and greater independence. Through structured, person-centered support, each individual develops work skills at a pace that matches their strengths, abilities, and goals.
The program prepares individuals for real work settings by building practical job skills and everyday life skills. These skills help support long-term independence and success.
Building Skills for the Workplace
Prevocational Services offer hands-on learning that helps individuals understand workplace expectations and build confidence.
Training may include:
- Being on time and managing time well
- Workplace behavior and professionalism
- Communication skills
- Social skills and teamwork
- Following directions and completing tasks
- Problem-solving and adjusting to change
Individuals learn how to follow workplace routines, work with supervisors and coworkers, and take pride in their contributions.
A Person-Centered Approach
Every individual has different strengths, needs, and goals. Prevocational Services are designed to meet each individual where they are and focus on realistic goals that support steady progress.
Success may mean learning a new task, improving communication, or becoming more confident in a structured setting. The program supports growth that is meaningful and lasting.
Learning Through Real-Life Experiences
Individuals learn through shared activities and real-life practice. These experiences help them use new skills in settings that are similar to the workplace.
Activities may include:
- Assignments that are similar to job duties
- Group activities that build teamwork
- Community experiences that strengthen work skills
- Practice with decision-making and responsibility
These activities help individuals move from learning a skill to using it. They also prepare individuals for supported or competitive employment.
A Pathway to Independence
Prevocational Services can be an important step toward greater independence and involvement in the community. By building work skills and confidence, individuals are better prepared to explore employment, take part in their communities, and reach personal goals.
Measuring Success
Success may include greater independence, stronger work skills, and the ability to use what was learned in everyday life. Individuals leave the program with more confidence, a stronger sense of purpose, and tools to take the next step toward employment and self-sufficiency.
