Community Living Supports

Aspire’s Community Living Supports program helps individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities build the skills needed to live as independently as possible. Services are provided in the individual’s own home or shared home, allowing skills to be taught and practiced in the setting where they will be used.

Support is based on each individual’s abilities, preferences, needs, and goals. The program focuses on practical skills that support daily living, confidence, and greater independence.

tal disabilities build meaningful connections in their communities. Through one-on-one and group activities, individuals are encouraged to take part in experiences that match their interests, comfort level, and personal goals.

The program also helps individuals build natural supports, relationships, and connections in everyday community settings. These supports can reduce isolation and help individuals feel more included.

Skill Building in Everyday Life

Aspire staff use hands-on instruction, guided practice, repetition, and step-by-step support to help individuals build daily living skills. Each skill is taught at a pace that matches the individual’s needs.

Areas of support may include:

  • Personal hygiene and self-care
  • Grooming and appearance
  • Meal planning and cooking
  • Household cleaning and organization
  • Clothing care, including washing, folding, and choosing appropriate clothing
  • Money management and basic budgeting, when appropriate
  • Moving safely within the home and community

Communication and Social Development

Community Living Supports also help individuals build communication and social skills. These skills support greater independence and meaningful relationships.

Support may include:

  • Expressing needs and preferences
  • Improving communication with others
  • Understanding social cues and boundaries
  • Building respectful relationships with family, peers, and community members

·        Strengthening problem-solving and decision-making skills

Learning in a Familiar Environment

Because services are provided in the individual’s home or shared setting, skills are taught where they will be used each day. This can make learning more comfortable and help individuals apply new skills to their daily routines.

Aspire staff work with individuals and families to support progress and build routines that promote stability and independence.

A Focus on Independence and Confidence

The goal of Community Living Supports is to help individuals take greater control of their daily lives. Success may include improved self-care, stronger communication, greater independence, and the ability to manage everyday responsibilities with less support.

Through ongoing guidance and encouragement, Aspire helps individuals build the skills and confidence needed to participate more fully in their homes and communities.
