Family Support Services

Aspire’s Family Support Services program is funded by the State of Georgia. It helps individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, along with their families, access tools and resources that support safer and more independent living at home and in the community.

The program helps fill gaps in care by providing specialized support that improves daily living, access, and quality of life. Services are based on each individual’s needs, goals, and level of support.

Supporting Independence at Home and in the Community

Aspire works with individuals and families to identify needs and determine which supports may be approved. Services are designed to promote safety, access, independence, and practical support in daily life.

Family Support Services may include:

  • Specialized medical equipment and adaptive supplies
  • Assistive technology for communication, mobility, or daily living
  • Home modifications that improve access
  • Safety improvements that support independent living
  • Other approved supports that reduce barriers and increase independence

Assistive Technology and Adaptive Support

Assistive technology can help individuals take part more fully in everyday life. Depending on the individual’s needs, support may help with:

  • Communication and expressing needs
  • Mobility and physical access
  • Learning and completing tasks
  • Personal care and daily routines

Tools are selected based on the individual’s abilities and goals. They may support greater participation at home, school, work, and in the community.

Home Accessibility and Modifications

Changes in the home can improve safety and independence. Aspire may support modifications such as:

  • Accessibility improvements for mobility needs
  • Changes to bathrooms or living spaces
  • Safety improvements that reduce risks in the home
  • Structural changes that support independent living

These changes are designed to help individuals remain safely in their homes while becoming more independent.

A Person-Centered Approval Process

All Family Support Services are reviewed through Aspire’s approval process. Each request must meet the individual’s needs and follow program guidelines.

Aspire works with individuals, families, and support teams throughout the process. This helps support clear communication and timely coordination of services.

Strengthening Families and Supporting Independence

The goal of Family Support Services is to reduce barriers, increase independence, and improve quality of life. By providing access to needed equipment, technology, and home support, Aspire helps create safer and more accessible environments where individuals can thrive.
